Tips & strategy
Small habits that turn near-misses into screamers and clean sheets.
Bend it past the keeper
The signature goal: hold your shot for power, release, then push toward the corner to curve the ball around the goalkeeper. Aim for the far post — a curling shot into the top corner is far harder to save than a straight blast up the middle.
Beat the slide, do not run into it
A defender committing to a slide is beatable but only if you react late. Hold your line, and the moment they launch, change direction — they slide harmlessly past and you have space to shoot.
Time your own tackles
Sliding without the ball is your only way to win it back, but a mistimed slide leaves you on the floor. Press when the ball-carrier is committed to a direction, not while they are still jinking.
Use sprint sparingly
SHIFT sprint is great for chasing a loose ball or breaking away, but sprinting into traffic makes your touches heavier and easier to tackle. Slow down as you enter the box to keep control for the shot.
Match the team to the challenge
Strong nations move the ball faster and feel snappier — ideal while learning. For a real test, take an underdog through the World Cup and rely on aftertouch to beat quicker opponents.
Ball colour on snow
If the match loads on the snow pitch, the ball turns orange — see Pitches. Nothing else changes, so do not let the different look throw off your timing.
